Feeding Time – The Ten Commandments

Chapter 19 Mount Sinai (summary)

God tells Moses to obey Him fully and keep His covenant and Moses will be his treasured possession. The people listened to Moses and responded that they will do everything the Lord has said!

The Lord tells Moses to have the people was their clothes and be ready on the third day. The Lord will come into the sight of all the people. He told Moses to tell the people of perimeters around the mountain. They were also told to abstain from sexual relations. This is to keep them clean and focused on the Lord.

The Third day came and the Lord did exactly what he told them he would. Only Aaron was able to come up the mountain with Moses.

Chapter 20 The Ten Commandments

These are pretty self explanatory but it does not hurt to go over them again! These were set as a standard to have a relationship with God and with others!

1. You shall have no other gods before God.

2. You shall not make for yourself and idol in the form of anything! Heaven or Earth!

When I think of #1 and #2, I think of these things that have taken our focus from God. Athletes, money, possessions, sometimes even our own husbands! We are to only bow and worship to God.

3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord!

I know for me, it goes right through me when someone uses a cuss word with God’s name. Also, my children are taught even that “Oh my God” is not good… “Oh my gosh” I can handle.

4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

We talked about this last week refer to last Monday’s bible study.

5. Honor your father and your mother.

This is something that just sickens me when I see people not honoring their parents. I even know adults that need to work on this one!

6. You shall not murder.

7. You shall not commit adultery.

8. You shall not steal.

#6, #7, and #8 are pretty self explanatory!

9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

Do not gossip about others, do not lie!!!!

10 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, wife or family and possessions.

Do not envy what others have!

The people trembled with fear. They wanted Moses to speak not God. But Moses said “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.” Exodus 20:20

I will say, when these Ten Commandments were given they didn’t have Jesus in the picture who took all of our sin to give us another chance at going to Heaven. I would think that most of those in the time it was given was guilty of one or many of these! Just as we are today! The difference is that if you truly repent from any of these…you will be forgiven and given another chance! God is good!!! God knows where your heart is. I will give a complete honest testimony here. In our situation right now, I do feel myself being envy of people that can actually pay the bills! Then I feel guilt for even thinking that way. Conviction!! I also believe the Lord knows where are heart is!

Do you struggle with any of these commandments? Which one really gets to you when others do something they should not? Mine would be the Lord’s name in vain and honoring your parents.

For next week read: Leviticus 24:10-23 and Leviticus 25:47-55.

Lord God, I pray for each and every one of the people (including myself) reading this that they will be able to keep these commandments in their hearts and that they will fear you enough to keep from sinning. Thank you God for the lessons you give through your Word! In Jesus name I pray. Amen!

Many Blessings in the week ahead.

Feeding Time- Week One Genesis 1-3

I apologize ahead of time for the length. So much good stuff! Next week will be a lot shorter, I promise! Hang in there!

Genesis Chapter 1

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

In six days God created:

Day and Night (light and darkness)
Water and dry land
Vegetation- fruits, veggies, flowers, trees.
Lights in the skies to show day and night to provide us with seasons, days, years
Land and water creatures
Made man in his own image

Do you look around and see the wonderous things God has made? Out of these items above, do you have one you need to work on realizing how wonderfully made they are? What are your favorite things on this list?

If you had asked me a year ago about animals and flowers, I would say “No I’m not really into it.” My excuse was that I kill flowers (so it’s the hubby’s job) but I have to confess this year has been different. I look at flowers in a different way. They are beautiful, wonderfully made! Chasin (my husband) and I walk around the yard every evening to look at them and take pictures. It is my favorite time of day! I also am not much of an animal lover but I sit on my porch in the morning and watch squirrels, birds and other animals. I catch myself saying how amazing they are and thanking God for these things! Sunsets and sunrises have always been my favorite to look at but now I have these other things fighting for the favorite spot! My only question is why the mosquitoes??? Haha!

Genesis Chapter 2

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” Genesis 2:2-3

What are your feelings on this? Do you do nothing but church on Sundays?

I have a friend that strongly believes we should do nothing but church. My feeling is that sitting doing nothing, is not what is said here. This is the day we get together with family and friends. Enjoy time together and have fun outside being thankful for the beauty of it. Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of Sundays we sit at home and do nothing but watch movies or play games, just the six of us. Although, we do feel relaxed when we spend time with the people we love outside of our home.

“The Lord God said, “ it is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Genesis 2:18

“Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh, she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the will become one flesh.” Genesis 2:22-24

What do you see in these verses? Do you feel as one flesh with your husband? Does it make you feel that you are needed in a big way?

Wow! This is one of my favorite parts of Genesis. No wonder we grow up feeling like we have to have a husband and love in our life. We want that fairy tale! God made us to want this so we feel whole. I do feel whole with my husband, God and my children! It makes me feel so wanted and needed! Thank you God for that! :)

Genesis Chapter 3

“…Did God really say, You must not eat from any tree in the Garden?” Genesis 3:1

How does Satan tempt you? What do you do to get him off your back? How do you tell if it is God or Satan pushing you?

I can tell you I use scripture. The scripture tells all! If you are not sure which one it is (evil or good), I suggest knowing more of the Bible, so you are familiar with the types of things God would want you to embark on and do. I pray before I do. I am human and make mistakes but there are lessons to be made there!

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.” Genesis 3:7

Are you ashamed of something you have done? Are you ashamed of something someone else has done to you? Do you know what to do when this happens?

My bible talks about false shame and true shame. I have to share. True shame is when you feel guilty for your sin. False shame is when you feel dirty because another person sinned against you (i.e. sexual abuse or rape). Bring your true shame to the cross of Jesus for forgiveness. Jesus has already taken your sin and shame on himself. False shame, bring it into the arms of Jesus for healing. Amazing, I never saw it that way. Adam and Eve were ashamed of what they did and wanted to hide. I realize hiding from our shame is not the best way!

If you made it this far, I thank you for not giving up on this long post! Next week will be shorter; I have way too much to say in a single study! Read Exodus Chapters 19 and 20 The Ten Commandments. I just feel led to do that, we need to always stay reminded of these!

I do not expect you to answer everything I ask. I just ask for you to think about it. This how you learn what the scripture means to you. If you would like to comment please do so.

Let's pray:
Lord God, I pray for everyone reading this. That your Word will be placed in their hearts for the days ahead. That they may learn something they never have, I know I did! Thank you Lord for the Word that saves us from Satan and that keeps us wanting more of You! Please protect all of these people and their families as we journey in the week ahead. In Jesus name I pray, Amen!

Many, Many Blessings
