Thirsty Thursday – Self Control

Ooohhh do I lack some self-control, or what!!  This is one of the fruits of the spirit that I need to work on. So here it goes!!

“Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.” 1 Corinthians 7:5

“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”              1 Peter 5:8

I don’t know about you but I see that we deprive our friends and loved ones if we lack self-control in prayer! Oh that is a horrible feeling!! I also see that we need to come together as believers to fight off Satan. I know I fight Satan daily but I also know of some of my friends and family that pray for me. I trust that God hears those prayers (including mine) and helps me defeat Satan in every situation. It is a scary thought that the devil is prowling around looking to consume us… I don’t care who you are! That is scary!! So keep praying about every situation and listen to God! He is talking to us all the time!

“But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8

The beginning of this chapter is awesome! Do you expect anything less from God?! Ha-Ha! If you have time go read it. It talks about the light of the Son and the dark of Satan. That because we have salvation through Christ we live in the light! Thanks be to God!! I love the armor talk too. We need to have these things at all times! Love and Faith!!!

Do you struggle with self-control? I know I do. I fight being a procrastinator every day. If I had the self-control thing down, I would not put things off… I would just get it done so I have more time for other things like devotions. These verses are very good, keep them in the back of your head throughout your day! See what happens!!! ;)

Lord God, help us to be self-controlled so that we can do more in You and for You. We are human and this is a hard one for most of us. I pray that everyone here can see what happens when they do NOT lack self-control, including me! Thank you for your promises of being in the light and having salvation through you! Keep us safe until next time! In Jesus name I pray. Amen!

Many, Many Blessings this Thursday!

  1. I struggle with self control the most and then it's definitely patience. We need self control in all areas of our life. The Lord is opening my eyes to LOTS of areas in my life that I didn't even REALIZE I NEED self control IN! So you are not alone in that and I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide me and that I will listen when He does!!
